As you well know, a state grant of $250,000 has been awarded to Hazle Creek Properties to construct a new railroad track to haul contaminated river dredge sludge materials for dumping at the toxic Hell Hole, the site of the former Hazleton City landfill.
This could also be the opening to bring in all sorts of toxic and hazardous materials such as fly ash, cement and lime kiln dust, construction demolition waste, sewage sludge and Heaven knows what other poisons.
The Greater Hazleton area already has more than its share of toxic and hazardous waste which has been dumped here over the years due to the most corrupt political structure and ruthless industrial development corporation on the face of the earth.
As the enclosed map and list of health statistics reveals, their key accomplishments have been to cause pain, suffering and death to the people of our communities -- starting with the beryllium plant.
But, remember, the local news media -- the Standard-Speaker, in particular -- has been greatly responsible because it has done nothing but heap praise upon the pillars of society, especially Dr. Edgar L. Dessen, founder of CAN DO and the person most responsible for bringing in the beryllium plant.
However, the propaganda machine is ALSO responsible for the pain, suffering and death of the people.
The No. 1 priority of the government and all "pillars of society" is to protect the people but, in this area, protecting the people is meaningless.
With all the poisons dumped in our area and the incredible number of incurable diseases they have caused, it is now up to all of us to stop the grant money for the railroad line and STOP THE DUMPING --for what chance will the newborns have?
Anyone who believes that the dumping of MORE toxic waste as well as building on top of the former Hazleton City Landfill would be beneficial to us is either an illiterate or a damn fool.
It is now up to all of you, especially state Rep. Todd Eachus, who holds a high position in the House of Representatives, to stop the grant money for the railroad track and he has no excuse not to do so. If he cannot accomplish this, it's time for him to resign and get the hell out of our area.
Mr. Eachus, DO what you were elected to do: PROTECT THE PEOPLE, not the corrupters and polluters. Also, stop playing around with the Cargo Airport. We already have enough problems to contend with.
If all of you turn your cheek the other way, you will have proven to the people you are nothing but a walking, talking exercise in self-gratification and a vulture possessing venom without supplication for human compassion and decency.
Enough is enough! Stop the DEATH TRAP or get the hell out of town and stay out.
Meanwhile, the person most responsible for bringing in the poisonous, toxic sludge is our Illegal Immigration mayor, Lou Barletta,
Just remember, Mr. Mayor, the health and welfare of the people is supposed to come first -- not illegal immigration, not sludge to poison the people.
The No. 1 priority is to protect the people, not run for Congress where you certainly don't belong.
Sincerely yours.
Phil Kaufman
